All Baby Pushchairs Aren't Created Equal - Spend Your Money on the Right Model

By Ann Krall

Raising a baby can get expensive. The most common items are the bed, pushchair, toys. Bottles and pacifiers, and car seat. You may want to occasionally want to take your baby outside or to have a doctor's appointment, owning a pushchair will make your journey a lot easier. Picking the right one among the hundreds of models is a job in itself. You need to know what to look for when shopping for your new pushchair (stroller)? A formula doesn't exist that will give stroller shoppers the perfect result every time. There are, however, some major criteria that you should consider when deciding which pushchair to purchase.

Before you buy just any pushchair or stroller, consider the types of wheels it has on it. They're usually available with either fixed or swivel wheels. You'll find that strollers fitted with fixed wheels are often cheaper, but they are also a lot more difficult to maneuver than those with directional swivel wheels. The wheels can be compared to those on the carts in grocery stores. Imagine trying to get around if those wheels stayed fixed in place. It would be really awkward to steer a card around where you wanted to go. Strollers and pushchairs have the same principle behind steering and control. The more maneuverability your stroller has, the easiesr you'll find it to steer.

People who have newborns may want to consider a stroller that is convenient for how much sleeping the baby does. Some pushchairs are basically bassinets on wheels. It might seem like a clunky setup at first, but you'll enjoy how convenient it is to travel during naps with a stroller like this. You might even consider simply letting your infant sleep in it during the day for naptimes-that way you can move him or her around as you need to without having to worry about the transition from sleeping area to pushchair waking your little one up!

Is the pushchair light enough for you but heavy enough for your baby? You must make an informed decision on this before you pick your pushchair. There is no need to search for the heaviest stroller, you just need something with a little weight to it. A stroller that has enough weight to support a baby that likes to shift and kick is what you will be looking for. However, you need to keep in mind that you are the one pushing and carrying the stroller up and down stairs; so, you need one light enough for you to handle. If the chair is too heavy you might not ever want to use it and that defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place.

There are all sorts of criteria by which you can judge the usefulness and worthiness of baby pushchairs. Remember, you need to buy something that will suit your needs as they exist now. Just because someone else likes a stroller doesn't mean it's right for you. Think about what you need your stroller or pushchair to do and then buy the stroller or pushchair that does just that!
