Being Pregnant For The First Time

By Dana Green

If you have just taken your first positive batch of pregnancy tests, then there is almost no doubt that you are excited, and maybe even a little bit terrifying. After all, a first pregnancy is always something that can be a little hair raising. If you are now concerned with what you need to do over the next few weeks, then here are some things that you should do to make sure that you are as prepared as possible for the arrival of your baby.

While it may be tempting to start phoning your family and friends to announce the pregnancy, you really need to hold your horses for a little bit. The reason is because you need to see a doctor to definitely confirm the pregnancy. If you only got confirmation from a store bought test, then you need to double check because there is always room for a false positive. After all, you would hate to spend a lot of money on things for a baby that you are not even going to have.

After you have confirmed the pregnancy you get to do the fun part: announce the pregnancy to your friends and loved ones. There is not really a right or wrong way to do this. You simply need to give the news in a way that works best for you. However, some people like to wait on the ultra sound, just so there is concrete proof of the pregnancy (since some people like to write off pregnancy announcements as jokes.)

Taking birthing classes is something that many soon to be parents do not see the point in. After all, people have been giving birth ever since there have been people, so it is one of those things where nature takes its course whether the parent is ready or not. But in truth, birthing classes help to mentally prepare you for the arrival of your baby and labor. It is also a great way to help boost your coordination when the day actually comes.

If there is a time that is almost as exciting as actually having the baby, it would be finding the babies gender. This is the time when you can finally start seriously considering a name for your baby. There are many parents who are content with merely giving their baby a name that sounds pretty, but there are a lot of parents out there that consider naming their child a big responsibility. This is due to the belief that the meaning of the name you pick will have an impact on the development of the child.

It is also highly important that while you are shopping for the things your baby will need, like diapers, toys, clothes, a crib, and things like that, that you make absolutely sure that the products you choose are safe. Your best resource here is the internet. The internet will help you find the products that are safe for your child and the products that you need to avoid like the plague.
