Bike rides are fun activities enjoyed adults and kids alike. Believed to have been discovered during the 1860s by the French father and son team of carriage-makers Pierre and Ernest Michaux, bicycles come today in a number of different types. The popularity of bicycles may be attributed to the number of benefits that may be derived from their use. Nonetheless, wearing safety gears, such as Giro bike helmets for example, is always a must when riding bikes.

Mountain bikes, road bikes, touring bikes, and hybrid bicycles are the four general types of bicycles. Those bikes designed especially for mountain tracks are called mountain bikes. Their notable features are fat tires, wide handlebars, and lots of gears. These special features allow bikers to use them comfortably on rough terrains. On the other hand, bikes with thin tires, drop handle bars and are light weight are commonly referred to as road bikes. These bicycles are especially designed to run at high speeds on smooth surfaces.

They also feature mudguards, pannier racks for carrying luggage, and longer wheelbases. Finally are hybrid bikes which combine the characteristics of mountain bikes and road bikes. As such, these bikes can be used to run on mountain tracks yet also runs great on smooth surfaces. Racing bikes, BMX, and tandem bicycles are also other types of bicycles now available in the market. Though these bikes are designed for various purposes and terrains, Giro bike helmets and other safety gears should still be worn by bikers whenever they perform bike rides.

As was earlier established, various benefits can be derived from practicing bike rides making it one of the world's popular sports activities. Among the health benefits that can be derived from riding bicycles is the reduced risk of coronary heart diseases. By giving the heart, blood vessels, and lungs a workout, cycling prevents the acquisition of bikers of heart diseases. Also, riding a few miles every day with your bike will allow you to build trimmer and toner muscles. Moreover, biking is a great stress reliever as it provides one satisfaction and pleasure, hence, allowing one to escape from the stresses of life. There are also environmental benefits that can be derived from riding bicycles. First is the reduction of noise pollution as bicycles are considerably quieter than other modes of transportation. Moreover, bicycles are among the most environment-efficient modes of transportation as they are non-polluting.

Bicycle riding is indeed one of the most popular sports activities today. As such, ensuring the bikers' safety whenever they ride their bikes is a must. To ensure their safety, bikers should always wear safety gears. Among these are bike helmets-proven to reduce head injuries by 60% and brain injuries by 58% --that are now available in the market in various brands such as Giro bike helmets. Bikers should also wear appropriate biking clothes which should be bright or colored for those doing bike rides during the day or reflective ones for those riding their bikes in the night. There are also protective gears for the feet and hands. For the feet, footwear should fully enclose the toes and heels why cycling gloves are necessary as protection for the hands. Other must-have safety biking gears are lights and reflectors, horns, bells, and brakes.

Bicycles and bike rides are indeed interesting to learn. With the many benefits that can be acquired from bike rides, it can't be denied that this sport is one of the most loved by individuals. As such, bikers should always equip themselves with gears such as Giro bike helmets that would provide them safety when doing their bike rides.
