By Ignacio Alvang

Screensavers are a program run by a windows computer that displays a picture on your monitor when the computer remains inactive for a certain length of time. They were developed to help prevent static images from being burned into screen of early day CRT monitors. Most modern day monitors don't have this problem and so screensavers have become more of a decoration for people who want something interesting to look at while their computers are on but not in use. They are particularly festive during the holiday season and you can find some great holiday screensavers for computers in a number of places.
Windows provides many complementary screensavers. Windows noes not offer holiday screensavers in their original operating system package. However, you can easily get more software that provides you with a larger library of screensavers to choose from.

Microsoft's website lists their screensaver options. Other operating systems, like Mac or Linux, have a growing variety of screensaver options too. The Apple and Linux websites can help you find screensaver options for their operating systems.

However, the most popular place to get holiday season screensavers for computers is on the internet. You can find thousands of specially crafted screensavers to fit any type of computer screen resolution and personality type. There are traditional posters with decorated Christmas trees on them, artsy screensavers, and even ones that incorporate fantasy or science-fiction elements into the picture.

No matter what you are looking for, you will be able to find a holiday screensaver that you will like. Even better, most of these screensavers are free, so you can change your screensaver as often as you want without ever having to pay anything.
