Repainting Rooms In Your Home

By Kiki Hendrix

If you feel that your home needs a revamp, but you can't afford to renovate the home or work on any big projects, repainting the walls could be a great option for you. By adding a new lick of paint, your rooms can become fresh again adding a new feel and atmosphere to the home. If you want to change the way your home looks, repainting is a very quick way to do this.

The first thing you need to do is to plan what colors you'd like to choose for your rooms. Things that you should consider include the size and shape of the room in question, and also the color of your existing furniture and carpets. If you are painting a small room, dark colors might make it look even smaller which is obviously a bad thing. Also, you don't want any colors to clash with your furniture. If in doubt, take a trip to the store and pick up some samples to test out.

Now that you know what colors you will be using, it's time to go and get some supplies. Things that you need could include paint, primer, sand paper, brushes and rolls and other items such as overalls. If you have really nice flooring that you don't want to damage, it might be a good idea to buy some dust sheets. Disposable sheets can be purchased very cheaply and could save you a lot of money by preventing unwanted damage and spills.

When you start painting, first make sure that the walls are prepared correctly. Try to make sure that any old wall paper has been removed, and that any cracks or gaps have been filled in. Depending on the type of paint you are using, you may need to apply a coat of primer if you are painting wood. When applying your final color, make sure you take your time and if needed, go back and apply more coats. When painting, the finish will look patchy as it dries, so give it 24 hours until you decide to retouch certain areas.

Now that you know the basics of repainting the rooms in your home you are ready to begin. Should you have any questions be sure to ask at your local paint store while you are purchasing the paint. When you are finished you will be amazed at how little it cost to change rooms to a completely different look and feel!
