Moving into care homes is a really big step to take and you might not be completely sure that moving into a care home permanently is the right thing to do.

If you're not sure that you want to take this big step, then you might want to consider a temporary stay in one to help you make your mind up.

A short stay in a care home is a great idea if you feel as though you need a break. If you have a carer, your stay in a care home is also an excellent time for them to get a bit of respite. By staying in care homes temporarily, you can get a bit of time away from the usual routine and give your carer time to relax.

As well as this, going to a care home temporarily can be the answer if you are recovering from a stay in hospital or you are recovering from an illness. With people there offering support and help when it's needed, you can find that your recovery is a lot quicker than you expected. Staying in a care home can give you the break that you need, so that you get enough rest to continue to live independently after your stay in the care home.

And of course, staying in care homes temporarily, gives you a good taster of a particular care home, which can be useful if you're trying to decide on whether to move into residential care homes on a more permanent basis.

Whether you are going into care homes permanently or on a temporary basis, you need to visit the care home first, to make sure it suits you and you must also check that the staff and the facilities are all suited to your needs.
