Cheap All Inclusive Caribbean Islands

By Jose Maurette Garces

Looking for cheap Caribbean holidays? How about Bonaire Island. The lack of commercial development, wonderful weather and friendliness of the local people, lets you enjoy your holiday to the full, without feeling like a tourist. Bonaire enjoys unspoilt beauty and some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling in the world.

Truly tropical, Bonaire sees extremely little seasonal variation in sunshine hours and both sea and air temperatures. Although rainfall is characteristically the only feature that alters throughout the year, it is still very minimal. An easterly trade wind is also present throughout the year and provides a fresh relief from the daytime sweltering temperatures and high humidity levels.

The crystalline blue waters of Bonaire Marine Park and the talcum sands of pocket beaches create ideal conditions for scuba diving, snorkelling, sea kayaking, deep sea fishing, beach-combing, and windsurfing. The rugged hills are perfect for mountain biking, hiking, eco touring and bird watching. Bonaire is an obvious choice for nature lovers.

Many restaurants are shore-front and offer bars as well as sit-down dining. With Bonaire's year-round good weather and friendly breezes, most restaurants also offer al fresco dining (that's dining in the open for the monolingual among us). As the Dutch say, it's "gezellig" dining, which translates best as "cozy, welcoming, comfortable, and fun" all rolled into one. During the busy winter months or if you have a large group, we recommend reservations.

Most of the beaches on Bonaire are public with the exception of Harbour Village Resort where access is rectricted to guests and to those who have paid an entrance fee. Public nudity of any kind is illegal and insulting to the local people, except on Sorobon Beach (a privately owned nudist resort). Topless sunbathing and swimming is tolerated on non-locally used beaches.

Bonaireans are extremely protective of the environment. As a people, they are not interested in development or building a booming tourist industry. Rather than catering to the mainstream demands of huge resorts and souvenir shops, Bonaire emphasizes natural tourism. Bonaireans themselves are active people who enjoy sailing, swimming, fishing, and other Caribbean water sports.
