I'm Weighing My Abortion Alternatives, But Will I Be Overcome With Guilt If I Permit Someone To Adopt My Baby?

By Myron V. Sawyer

Whenever you find yourself pondering abortion alternatives as the result of an unplanned pregnancy, there are many things to take into account. If your unborn child could speak directly to you, they'd beg you to think about their life. This child would try to convince you that their life is just as important as yours. Approaching the situation from this perspective grants you permission to change your mind when it comes to abortion. The longer you ponder these thoughts (will someone adopt my baby?), the more you will open your mind to the possibility of adoption.

Even if you are unmarried, you can always consider the alternative to abortion procedures. I know that in modern society it's a woman's right to choose whether she wants to carry a child to term, but the baby's life is so important. And we would be remiss not to acknowledge that some of the circumstances surrounding the conception of an unwanted pregnancy can be horrendous. If you are one of these women, your decisions will weigh much more heavily upon you.

Adoption should be looked at as a viable alternative if this is your circumstance. You and your unborn child will reap the benefits of such a caring decision. Firstly, the unborn child has the chance to live, and an infertile couple has the opportunity to become loving parents.

For the mother, the rewards of adoption are also beneficial. She gets the peace of mind of knowing that she brought another life into the world. The mother commits an even bigger act of compassion by allowing those who want the child to provide it with a loving home. While there is the temporary inconvenience of the carrying the child to term, nine months is a drop in the bucket when compared with the average life expectancy for most women.

And for those who criticize your choice to pursue adoption alternatives, they've not walked a mile in your shoes. In times like these you must ask yourself, is there really any harm in allowing a loving couple to adopt my baby? You will need the love and support of friends and family to see you through this very challenging and difficult time. This process can be emotionally intense, and our intention is that you consider the adoption alternative for many of the reasons discussed.

This is a choice that you must make, and we wish you all the strength and wisdom in the world. And although time isn't particularly a resource in this regard, do give yourself the opportunity to think objectively about adoption. Weigh the outcomes closely so that you are comfortable with your final decision. When this ordeal is over, you'll be happy that you considered all of your options - including abortion alternatives - when making one of the most important decisions of your life.
