Just where Did Organic Gardening Truly Originate

By Salina Hadden

Most people think of hippies when they hear the term "organic gardening". But there is nothing miraculous or mystical about growing your own personal garden and using only natural elements to feed it. Hopefully, this information will reveal this to be true.

Hippies were not the first to try chemical-free gardening strategies. It is simply because there was plenty of media interest at that time, organic gardening had been around for a long time, many centuries in fact. For centuries, Amish farmers had been practicing natural and organic growing. Even now, they still get phenomenal results from their natural crop growing, even as modern farmers use chemical fertilizer, weed killers and pesticides. Throughout the world, it's normal to find food and plant gardeners who practice organic gardening exclusively.

The thought that bugs and other pests will always take control of your garden is nothing but a huge myth. People tend to be taught that they can't control the infestation of bugs without using chemical-based pesticides that are expensive. One simple, natural answer is the use of birds to control bugs and other pests. The thing that you will probably need to do, is establish an environment that is friendly to the birds to attract them to your garden. Put up a birdhouse including a source of fresh water, and you should have all the birds you need. The birds will definitely love it; they will have a spot to nest, water and all those bugs now feeding upon your garden to eat.

You have to fully grasp that it will take you much more than throwing some seeds on the ground and automatically you have a natural garden. And you do need to do a little something to help the process, like planting your seeds correctly and in the right soil. In addition, you need to take into account whether your climate is right for whatever it is you want to grow. You are going to need to conduct things differently when you live in a rainy climate rather than one that is dry. Another thing that quite a few people don't know, tends to be that earthworms will break up the soil and make it a better soil for growing. Earthworms need to have time to do their task, so you might quicken things up by purchasing some organic soil to spread and till in. With this approach you will actually be creating your own soil.

You could go to a local greenhouse, or do some searching through the internet, and you can learn a lot about organic gardening. And given that you recognize the health benefits of natural and organic gardening, why don't you pass the information on to your kids?
