Seeing the wildlife in Tenerife

By Gwen Douglas

Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands which belong to Spain and sit off of the coast of Africa. Because of this location, the island has a fantastic warm climate for the entire year and attracts and is home to a huge array of different wildlife. As well as the tropical birds which come from Africa, Tenerife is also frequented by pigeons and blackbirds from much cooler northern European countries.
Tenerife also has plenty of different ways for people to experience the wide variety of wildlife on the island and some of these ways are extremely popular tourist attractions. It isn't just certain areas and dedicated attractions in Tenerife where people can see wildlife either. The terrain and heat of the island make it the perfect habitat for a number of different species and so it is common to see birds, cats and reptiles wherever you go.

Loro Parque is by far the most popular way to see the wildlife of Tenerife and being the second most popular attraction for tourists is a testament to how enjoyable a visit to the park is. The park is a protective home for many species which live in the wild on the island but also a lot which don't as well. The park's focus is primarily on the many tropical birds but there is much more for people to see too.

There is also a lot of marine life at Loro Parque which people can view and watch in shows. Orcas, sea lions and most people's favourite; dolphins can all be seen at the park. Then there are the very lively penguins as well as gorillas, chimpanzees, tigers and still a great deal more. Loro Parque really is a fantastic place to experience the variety of wildlife found in the wild in Tenerife but also some which can't live in the wild there.

The sea life around Tenerife is amazing and going snorkelling or scuba diving is a great way to get a really good look at it. Snorkelling off of the beaches and rocks lets people get a look at the very common tropical fish but going scuba diving is an entirely different experience and something everyone should try.
