3 Strategies on How to Train Your Cat Successfully

By Julie Hayward

Learning how to train your cat can be amusing. As the owner of a moggy and a dog, I'm of the opinion that litter training a moggy is an interesting experience. Since cats are way more independent than dogs, it can be hard getting them to retort to your training cues. If you're having a hard time coaching your moggy to employ the litter box, there are three tips that may make the method easily manageable.

No Punishments

Folk who have owned and trained a young dog are accustomed to using punishment to speed up the potty training process. Nevertheless if you were planning to apply the same elements to training your cat think again. Cats do not respond to being punished, and in many cases they'll literally rebel against any punishments by doing the exact opposite of what you want them to do. Worse, punishments on a consistent basis can end up in your cat running away from the litter box, you, and your complete family.

Keep it Simple
Always keep your moggies litter box in a convenient, simple to access, area. This is very important in knowing how to train your cat. Many kitty owners are almost convinced to keep the litter box in an out of the way corner of the basement, a washing room, rest room, or even a use closet. While all these options keep your family from seeing or smelling the litter box, they also keep the litter box out of your cat's sight.

When training your cat you need to ensure they never encounter a position where they're going to use the litter box to find a closed door denying them access. Store the litter box in an area that your pussy-cat passes through continually so they have no Problems finding their litter box when they need it.

Reward Your Cat

The sole thing that dogs and cats have in common is their love of treats. Rewarding your pussy-cat every time they successfully use the litter box will give them some encouragement to use it frequently, and let you know when they've used it. Give your cat a bit of diced chicken or another cat treat when they have utilised the litter box so they know using the litter box includes rewards.

Be cautious when rewarding your pussy, and always ensure they have really made use of the litter box before giving them a treat. Cats are clever, and may try and trick you into giving them something although they have had an accident or haven't used their litter box at all.

Training your cat quickly will make feline ownership much more pleasurable. Remember, once your moggy has been successfully trained they'll be far less likely to have tiny "accidents" round the house. Not having to fret about cleaning up "accidents" will help you focus on building an excellent relationship with your moggy.
