The Easy Steps To A Penguin Costume

By Monica Mae

A penguin costume is actually one of the easiest costumes of all that you can make for your child, and so if you are struggling for an idea in terms of their Halloween costume, especially if they are younger, then this is definitely one that you are going to want to consider. Not only is a penguin costume incredibly easy to make, but you need only a few things to make it as well and so it is very cheap to create.

Let's Start With The Materials

For one of the easiest and most affordable types of the penguin costume, you need a grocery bag, orange construction paper, scissors, a black marker, and string. You can generally get all of these at your local arts and crafts store, however if you have dollar stores located in your area you should try those as well.

A Penguin Costume To Make

The first step that you would need to do to create the costume is to cut the front portion of the grocery bag in a downward direction, create a hole for your child's neck at the bag's bottom and cut flaps for the penguin's wings into the side part. Carefully color some parts of the bag using the black marker and leave the other parts as white to make it look like a real penguin.

Cut a triangular shape out of the orange construction paper. Form it like a cone and then use a stapler to put it all together. Create a hole on both sides of the orange cone. Cut a string measuring 12 inches and tie it on the individual holes. The cone will serve as the penguin's beak. You will just need to tie the strings at the back of your child's head.

Another way to make a penguin costume, one which is more suited to older children, is to have them wear black pants, a very large black sweatshirt and black mittens or gloves. Then you need white felt, orange felt, glitter, safety pins and scissors to complete the rest.

What should you do with all those papers? Just cut two penguin feet from the orange one, an oval from the white one which will serve as the penguin's stomach and a long strip from the yellow one. Make sure the yellow felt looks like a scarf and put some glitters on it.

The last few steps to complete the penguin costume would be to gather all the felt papers that you have cut for the penguin's features. Put the yellow felt scarf on your child's neck, the orange feet on the front bottom part of his or her pants and lastly, place the white oval on the shirt's front part. Just cover your child with another coat to achieve the cutest penguin look!
