Five of the best Family Holiday Options

By Andrew Milton

There are lots of great places to choose between for families heading to Europe. Whether you're looking to chill out or go on a bit of an active adventure, you're sure to find something to enjoy. The Canary Islands are an option that gives you a bit of everything. Gran Canaria is described as a continent in miniature, which means it's a good place to start your search. There's loads of top accommodation on offer, and in terms of activities you're spoilt for choice. Only, do make sure you choose a resort that caters to families rather than clubbers: you don't want noisy bed times.

If you're looking to save money and still get a great break then head to Bulgaria. Everything's really cheap here, including the accommodation, but the welcome for tourists, and the facilities, are top notch. The coastline is beautiful and unspoilt, and the beaches are for the most part deserted. It makes you wonder why you ever bothered with crowded resorts. Strandja national park offers hiking trails that will take your breath away too, so it's not al about the great seaside entertainments.

Family skiing holidays are a good choice, and you've got plenty of places to choose between in Europe. Austria's seeing a real boom in popularity at the moment, but the classics of Chamonix and the Swiss Alps still have a lot to offer too. Mix up the active pursuits with some horse drawn carriage rides and night walks to give the holiday a magical feel that everyone will remember.

Head to Spain, specifically the region of Catalonia, and you're likely to find everything you need to entertain a family. As well as top beach resorts there's also the appeal of Barcelona to keep you occupied. The Aquariums, water parks and boat tours are great for kids, and there are some good golf courses too (in case you were thinking of sneaking off at some point).

Turkey is another place that people don't tend to think of when they think 'Europe,' but it's part of the party, and a great holiday location too. There are loads of lovely stretches of beach, and lots of ruins along the coast too, so you can combine a bit of exploring with your sunbathing and paddling fun.
