Small Dog Grooming Bonita Springs

By Clarissa Osborn

Most groomers would agree that small dogs are a bit easier to handle when bathing and brushing. Dog grooming Bonita Springs, Florida does not mind if your canine friend is large or small; they will help them get clean and make them good looking for you and your family. Their services include everything from bathing, nail trims, shaving and trimming.

Some of the smallest dogs will put up the biggest fights when they are frightened. If you think your canine friend will be angry or scared for his first visit to the groomers, you may want to visit the vet first. Sometimes the vet will recommend a mild sedative for their trip to the groomers. This will not knock them out; it will make them 'mellow' and calmer so that the groomers will be able to do what needs to be done without anyone, the pup or the handler, getting injured.

There are special tables that the K9's stand on when they are being groomed. They have a long, thin pole at the front of the table where a leash is hooked and it goes around the dog's neck to hold her in place. This is done to protect both the dog and the handler.

Many large dogs have short hair and therefore will only need combing and minimal trimming to remove matting or any debris. Long-haired dogs will need extra care and some of their undercoat brushed out or thinned with a razor. Not all dogs, but some will need their anal glands expressed. This is done before the bath.

After all the trimming of the nails, the hair and if they need, their anal glands expressed, the furry pet is ready for his bath. This can sometimes be a joy and sometimes be a chore. The bath is really a shower for the canine because they would not sit still in a tub of water and the water would get too dirty to clean them. The long haired dogs will take longer to rinse out the shampoo but an average bath should not take more than about 10 to 15 minutes.

Towel drying the canine and then using a blower to make sure they are completely dry is the ideal way to finish a dog's bath. Combing their undercoat if they are a long-haired dog would be in order to remove the thick hairs that are the ones that cause shedding. Then the topcoat should be brushed to a shine.
