Torquay Bed And Breakfast Is Better Than Fawlty Towers

By George Livingstone

The English Riviera might not seem as exciting as its French namesake, but it has many delightful places that you can visit. It has beautiful beaches, glorious countryside and many attractions surrounding these seaside towns. If you plan to stay for a few days or more, Torquay bed and breakfast establishments are abundant and often inexpensive.

Torquay was featured in a British television series which centred on a hotel run by John Cleese as an eccentric owner. It ran for only twelve episodes but has become a classic series loved by millions worldwide. Real B&B's and hotels are thankfully perfectly normal and nowhere near as crazy as made out in the show.

Some owners might be as eccentric as the fictitious Basil, but the majority are warm and friendly and perfectly sane. Offering great accommodation as great prices they range in size and levels of luxury to match all budgets. Many boasts facilities to match even top hotels and most provide en-suite rooms.

While it is normal to be offered only your room and breakfast as the name suggests, you may find that dinner or afternoon tea is also on offer. Many have sumptuous sitting rooms where you can while away an afternoon or evening. It is unlikely that you will be thrown out all day as urban legend would have it.

Previously a thriving fishing village, Torquay is one third of the area of Torbay in Devon. There are many beaches which hold the Blue Flag award for cleanliness in the area. There are plenty of B&B's with views of the sea. As Basil says in the TV show to one difficult guest, "Yes this is the view" while pointing at the window when she complains of not having one.

There is so much choice when looking for Torquay bed and breakfast. You can find many via the internet to suit your needs and budget. Those located near the famous Strand or beaches are very popular.
