Seed germination is a natural process. We don't need to help very much. We just have to give the seeds (marijuana seeds or any others) the environment to do their own thing.
They need to be kept moist. They need to be in the dark. They must stay warm. The air must keep flowing and changing. This is easy.
The first method starts with a clean glass. Add distilled water. Drop the seeds in the glass (this is an old marijuana seed trick). Put everything in a warm place that is dark. A kitchen cupboard can work fine.
The amount of time necessary can vary. The seeds may germinate within 24 hours. They might take up to two weeks. Make sure to change the water every few days. When germination occurs the seed hull will split open and a root tip will emerge.
There is another traditional method. Get some paper towels. Get two plates. Moisten the paper towels and layer it on the plate. Don't let the edges of the towel extend past the edge of the plate.
Put the seeds between the layers of the paper towel. Cover the paper towel and seeds with the second plate, inverting it to create a germination chamber. Put the combination in a warm place. Every time you look at the seeds let the condensation run back into the lower plate and paper towels. This will save you adding more water.
When the seeds germinate you'll see a root tip emerge or at least a split seed cover. Plant the seed with the pointed end pointing down into the planting medium. The root tip will push into the medium and anchor the seedling, and push the seed to the surface. It needs light and air as soon as it emerges.
There is another way for germination to occur. Just plant the seeds directly into the growing medium. The growing medium can be soil, rockwool or jiffy pots.
Keep the seeds warm and moist. If they dry out they will die. Plant the pointed end of the seed pointing down.
Don't over water the seedlings once they emerge. The stems can get too wet, rot and fall over. Make sure the surface of the medium is dry before you water again.
Above all, do not dry the seeds out. If they dry out they will die. Don't use bleach. Purify the water by boiling it, or use distilled water. Bleach can kill seeds.
