All About Silk In Toronto

By Janette Livingston

Silk Toronto has a very old and rich history. The fabric started being used in the 27th century BCE according to the Chinese tradition. It was only available in China until the second half of the first millennium BCE when the Silk Road opened.

Although the route that led across China to Rome became accessible, China still monopolized it for another thousand years. This is widely used in Chinese culture, not only when it comes to clothing. It was utilized in writing throughout the Tang Dynasty because the pigment of the material is a valuable symbol of the social class.

The Japanese started developing land for growing of this material in 300 BCE. In 522 CE, the Byzantines followed after they got hold of silkworm eggs. Then, the Arabs started to produce this material soon after. Although the need for the Chinese exports decreased, they still ruled the market with their outstanding products.

The crusades were highly responsible for introducing silkworms to Western Europe. Italy capitalized on this and soon became the major exporting power in Europe. In the middle ages, there were noticeable changes in the production techniques. The spinning wheel made its first appearance. France joined Italy to become a strong contender in the 16th century. However, other European countries were not so lucky in their attempts to capture the market.

When the Industrial revolution happened, there were also changes in its production. There are new modifications in the cotton industry and processing the material became easier. Cotton was cheaper and other expensive materials had lower market value.

Then, the Jacquard Loom was established to make the processing of cotton efficient and speedy. This was considered a leading material in the cotton business. When the silkworm diseases came about, it was France that was highly affected by it.

China is the largest provider of yarn. India came second and Japan came in third place. Although it has been said that Italy and France are the producers of the finest yarn, China has refined the production to supply very excellent quality yarn at present. People can distinguish and expensive material if the fabric is durable and heavy.

Silk Toronto is ideal to use in warm weather. It is not only comfortable, but has low conductivity to keep the user warm. This is highly recommended for those people living an active lifestyle. This is widely used by people from all parts of the globe. Not only is this used in shirts, but in making dressing gowns as well.
