Baby Monitors - The Bottom Line When Choosing

By Sophia Anderson

You might remember the time when the most complex thing a baby monitor could do was pick up on the conversations your neighbors were having on their cordless phones. These days, baby monitors are far more advanced than the original models which just relayed sounds. You'll find some that include video monitoring. Finding the right monitoring system can be difficult at first, because there are so many options. Now, you might be thinking to yourself, that you just want to find the simplest monitoring "contraption" which has the littlest feedback squeal, and want to keep things as simple as possible. Now while it may seem like an information overload right now, here are some things you should definitely consider when you are choosing your next baby monitoring system.

Do you know the type of frequency or channel range required?

Assessing how much you want to be able to hear, see or know when you are not in the same room as your baby is also important. Some systems just keep track of the sounds, while others may keep track of any movements in the room by alerting you. There are even systems which have full video and audio monitoring capabilities. But when making your decision, you really only need to ask yourself how much you actually want to be able to monitor when you are not in the room. Remember that if you do not choose the "all out, all gadgets, expensive" system, that does not make you a bad parent, because at the end of the day, you simply need to be finding a system which can monitor your baby as you need it to.

What kinds of things are happening in your home that could potentially interfere with your monitor? Some baby monitors operate on the same frequency as other common household electronics, such as cell phones, radios, and cordless phones, which can interfere with its effectiveness. Choosing a monitor which operates on various frequencies can help solve this issue, and will also prevent your devices from malfunctioning.

What else is happening in your home that could interfere with the monitor? Do you have cordless phones...do you have cell phones...Radios, because you will want to choose a baby monitor that operates on a different frequency than the other devices in your home. It's important to get a monitor which can operate on different frequencies so that your electronic deceives do not end up malfunctioning.

There is a lot to take in when you want to purchase your baby monitor. But it all depends on how extensive you actually want your system to be and how much you want it to cost. Don't be afraid to take the time to do your research in the end, because you will easily be able to make your decision once you do.
