Can Modifying Your Diet Impact the Sex of Your Baby

By Karen Wilder

Natural baby gender selection experts use a number of different methods to aid in increasing the probability you have either a boy or a girl. While the interplay of many different factors are widely believed to make a contribution to your babies sex, the diet choices you make can have a big impact.

It's no secret that the things that you eat influence your body chemistry. Studies, like those done by Dr. Landrum Shettles in the 1960's, show that that sperm that carry the Y-chromosome and produce baby boys respond in a different way to acidic environments that sperm that carry the X-chromosome and produce girls. The acidity of the environment the sperm encounters when deposited in the vagina influences the fertilization process and therefore helps determine the gender of your future baby.

The Y-chromosome carrying boy producing sperm are generally quicker but more frail compared to the X-chromosome carrying girl producing sperm and will perish faster in a more acidic environment. If you would like to conceive a boy altering your body chemistry to provide a more alkaline environment would most likely raise the probability. Conversely if you were wanting a baby girl creating a more acidic environment for the sperm would be benefical as they're much more durable and more able to withstand it.

Choosing the right foods to change your body pH levels as you want may thus impact the sex of your future child. If you wish to have a boy, foods that contain potassium and sodium are important. Salted snack foods are a source of sodium while bananas are a good source of potassium. Gender selection diet advocates also advise that you eat more red meat, bread, eggs, zucchini, mushrooms, peas, beans, and corn.

If you want a little girl, target foods that are loaded in magnesium and calcium. Broccoli is the best friend of couples who wish for a girl as it contains good levels of both nutrients. Other foods to eat include grapefruit, apples, dairy products, fish, and leafy green vegetables.

It's vital to remember that while changing your diet may increase your chances of having a boy or girl you should generally be aware of maintaining a well balanced diet. Proper nourishment will benefit you in very many ways besides getting the child of your dreams.
