Falling Pregnant: What Can You Look Forward To In A Time Of Happiness And Uncertainty

By Karen Wilder

Falling pregnant can be a wonderful moment for a mother-to-be. For some women it occurs after a substantial period of trying and beating what might have seemed like almost impossible obstacles. For others it is a surprising moment and completely surprising. Regardless of how it occurs it is a moment that holds much promise and for those women who haven't tried to specifically conceive a boy or girl, the start of a long wait to find out the gender of their baby.

Mixed together with thoughts of holding their newly born baby-to-be is uncertainty about the future and especially what should be expected while they are pregnant. In modern society women are exposed to a large amount of information about what will happen when pregnant and what they will experience. The questions is, how much of that's really true?

A common concern revolves around stories of morning sickness. Does morning sickness mean I'll feel sick all morning? Typically about 75 percent of pregnant moms will suffer some amount of morning sickness during their first trimester. The term morning is a bit of a misnomer as it can happen at any time of the day and be mild or quite severe. Doctors believe morning sickness is a response to high hormone levels.

At the same time they may be thinking about morning sickness, food cravings is another area a pregnant women might have heard many stories about. Are the stories about the often weird food cravings actually true? When you are eating for two, your appetite does not just increase, it sometimes can get almost downright strange. As well as developing a hunger for one specific food, pregnant women can often develop a taste for some surprising fusions of foods.

Pregnancy and the experience of being pregnant is something as 100% unique to each woman and the baby-to-be growing inside them. It pays to educate yourself as to what to expect but its also a good thing to expect the unexpected. In 1 way or another it's an experience you will likely always remember.
