Maternity Swimsuits are Awesome - and We've Come a Long Way!

By Eric James

Whenever you take a look at the striking, daring and exciting maternity swimsuits available to women today, you will never consider that there was a time when ladies went to the pool or the seashore in swimsuits that looked much more like ball dresses! These kinds of bathing suits were genuinely shorter but still pretty much seemed just like long dresses. Crazy, huh? It was during the 1920s when style in bathing suits made headway into the prudish conventions of that time period. Nevertheless, the androgynous, sports tank suits with their built-in modesty shorts are far away from the far more liberating and revealing swimsuits we now have today. Additionally, these definitely didn't qualify as maternity swimsuits through the second to the third trimesters just because the cut was not adequately supportive and also the fabrics not sufficiently stretchy. Heaven forbid, also, that a pregnant woman was ever seen parading around in her swimsuit!

The 1930s bathing suits more closely resemble their current counterparts. You can find the bathing suits of this era in two sections with the bottoms cut higher over the legs and the material more figure-hugging compared to before. Expecting mothers might at this point be dressed in the two-piece bathing suit but most probably in her backyard swimming pool only.

And next came the 1940s with its structured corsets and bone straps for bathing suits. Since the corsets highlighted the hourglass body of the ladies, you may surmise that expecting mothers were not able to be dressed in these types of swimsuits.

When the bikini came on the scene, approximately 1946, the scene of maternity swimsuits was basically changed for the better. The bikini made possible for the belly-proud mindset where by the expectant woman can certainly exhibit her tummy for all of us to look at.

Aided by the much more free attitude in contemporary society related to body image, a growing number of pregnant women started to wear maternity swimsuits to public seashores and swimming pools with no fear of recriminations. Women can now pick from quite a few styles which range from the modest tankinis and baby dolls to the more revealing bikinis. Without a doubt, when you've got the tummy, flaunt it!
