By Adriana Noton

When a baby is born he or she must be detached from the mother. The umbilical cord blood is what can be extracted at the time of birth. It can be an advantage it the child become ill or sick and needs to boost their immunity. It can be stored for future use or donated to others. This can even be a viable option for obtaining Cord blood stem cells without difficulty.

One can never know what their future holds. You can be healthy one day and ill in the next. If you have the financial means to do so you can prevent your child from potential harm with storage of birth cells. You do not have to do anything special except pay the fee to maintain it.

Should you feel that you no longer need the cells that you have stored you can give them away. You can be a good Samaritan to improve the life of someone else. If another family member gets ill and is a close enough match you might be able to use the cells on their behalf.

When people have cancer one of the major problems can be finding a compatible bone marrow donor. Sometimes the family members may not be a match. If one has their own cells from birth to aid them then worry and stress are eliminated from the equation.

To be able to extend the life of the cord blood it must be stored in a proper environment. This should be in a frozen state at lower temperatures which are monitored and controlled. The power should never be in compromise and the conditions should be sterile and safe.

Although no one has control over the condition of the birth of their child it can play an important role over the amount of cells collected. The greater number that you have can mean improved success for a medical procedure later. Vaginal births have the largest amount of cells that are saved. Cesarean births are one of the lowest. But no matter what type of birth is involved having any cells is worth future potential use.

The biggest concern that most people have is the validity or expiration date of the cells. Currently there is no date that cells cannot be used as long as they are stored properly. There are cases where viable cells have been used successfully which were stored for many decades. The older people get the greater chance that they will need their cells.

Umbilical cord blood has many medical benefits. There is no price that one can place on health. As advancements in medicine continues to appear it is an advantage for those that have access to these cells in the fight against many top diseases. For some it can mean the difference between life and death. It can also increase and improve the quality of life depending on the way they are used. If you want to take a proactive decision in the health of your child then banking their birth cells and blood is an option that you will want to consider.
