Utilize Beach Themed Christmas Decorations To Rejuvenate Your Christmas Theme

By Rebecca McKeich

The emphasis on summer and seaside decor is becoming more attractive to sun-lovers. These items include beach Christmas decorations as well. The theme may be used exclusively, or could be combined with a traditional theme as well. Things like seashells, small pieces of fish net, starfish and crabs, and other things are used to develop this theme.

The star on the top of a tree could be replaced with a starfish. The starfish might even be decorated with glitter in such colors as gold or silver, or maybe red or green. This adds sparkle to the whole thing. Streamers could be strung down the side of the tree from the starfish on top. Seashells and other beach-themed items could be pierced with a small drill bit and ribbon strung from them for hanging. Fishing line is an alternative if an invisible hanger is desired.

Driftwood, or rustic wood cut in different shapes using a jigsaw may be painted or stained, adding a cute holiday word or two, and hung for decoration. These make excellent door decorations in lieu of, or in addition to, a wreath. The wreath itself might be decorated with pretty seashells, pieces of driftwood, and a cut-out wooden surfing Santa. Also, starfish or an octopus decorated with a Santa hat and attached to the wreath is an attractive wreath ornament.

Beautiful centerpieces including white sand (in a tray) with shells, coral, or small replicas of anchors embedded in it can be a wonderful accent to your other tropical Christmas decor. Adding small pieces of fish net and colorful ribbons add to the holiday decor. Glittery glass ornaments can give the illusion of ocean bubbles.

Place cards decorated with a combination of holiday themes and seashells can make for a very festive look, but be reminiscent of the seaside as well. Tree skirts and cards decorated with flip flops, surf boards, a variety of seashells, and different varieties of colorful coral or seaweed make attractive decorations. These should be either decoupaged or appliqued, depending on the materials used.

A very beautiful ornament that looks professional is often made from a clear glass ball ornament, some red or green confetti, glittery confetti shapes, and small seashells, seaweed, or very small pieces of coral. Drop in confetti strips and shapes, and any pieces of coral or small seashells that will go into the opening. After all pieces are in and placed, take a small funnel and pour a small amount of sand in the bottom. Only a few very small pieces of shells should be used.

This idea can also be used with a fillable balloon wrap, which allows for larger items and a few more. Though the machines through which you fill them can be expensive, it can also be rented. You can build with larger items and place them more carefully. If necessary, larger items can be glued into the balloon.
