Events to look out for in Malta

By Georgia H. Carpenter

The Republic of Malta, or Malta for short, is a southern European archipelago and country that sits just about in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea. The fact that it only takes up around 300km2 of land means it is one of the smallest and most densely populated countries on the planet. For its size, however, it has much to offer. What follows is a quick look at the most exciting annual events in Malta.
Even the most horrendous of spaces can be given a romantic infusion by the adding of candles. The little harbour in Birgu is beautiful enough as it is, but when there are thousands of candles filling the air with an amber glow, it becomes magical. There you can discover history through historical re-enactments, discover music, and sample some excellent food. An evening here will be magical, atmospheric and hugely memorable.

The International Fair of Malta is a great place to go to learn, browse for something you need or want, or for seeking specialist advice about something. There is always a trade fair on offer, and with the amount it will probably be something you are interested in, from bird shows, to boats and interior design. These shows are of such quality that they are visited by the locals and tourists continuously.

Every year for a couple of days the Isle of Malta transforms into the Isle of MTV, where you can catch some of the most famous names in rock, as well as some new and exciting talent, all together in the largest open air festival in Europe. The location of this is the Granaries in Floriana.

So far we have had something for an atmospheric evening, something for the intellect, and something for listening pleasure; but we have yet to cover something beautiful for the eyes to feast on! For this we have the Malta International Fireworks festival, which is a visual treat of epic proportions. There is not much to add that the name doesn't cover, but you can be sure to expect some of the most expertly arranged sequences. As this list makes clear, Malta has so much to offer, and this was just a short part of the list.
