Can You Choose The Gender Of Your Baby? - What Are The Ways?

By Pat Lovejoy

Can you choose the gender of your baby? Soon-to-be parents are curious to know if it's possible to pick the sex of their incoming child. Up until recently the answer to that question would be no way, but hi-tech developments have made it very possible if you are willing to dish out the cash of course. However, there are natural methods to influence your child's sex such as using certain positions during intercourse.

Expecting couples possess an even chance of having a son or a daughter. They're very understandable reasons as to why a couple may want to swing the odds in their direction. Of the more important is avoiding gender-linked genetic sickness. Other factors include cultural or the plain preference of having a female or male.

Some ethicists worry about the morality of the situation because the practice is not flaw free and the outcome could be disastrous. It is also important for parents to understand that the results may not be to their expectations and be prepared to accept the outcome. There's a high risk for abnormalities even if otherwise successful.

Health experts have said that there isn't one true or established way of preconception and that none of the ways are foolproof. Natural approaches exist as stated above and while they don't hurt to attempt, health experts say your chances are slim. However, grandmothers from all around have shared successful natural approaches to preconception.

The most popular natural procedure is called the Shettles Method. This method has been around for 30 years and was developed by a female doctor of whom it received it's name. It's said to be successful by performing intercourse during a certain period of a woman's cycle and utilizing specific sexual positions. More about the renowned process is explained in the published book.

Some reports say that the Shettles approach works 75% of the time and works for boys especially. However, actual proof is still absent and fertility experts are very weary. They say that you are just as likely to produce the gender you want by performing random sex.

Now lets talk about the high-tech approach, which is more successful and supported by experts. The technology involves separating the the y- and x-bearing sperm by means of dye, a laser, and a machine called a cytometer. It's reported to have a 91% success rate among daughters and a 73% rate for sons. However, medical professionals recommend to only go this route if to prevent a major illness.

New parents want to know can you choose the gender of your baby. The answer is that there are both natural and medically assisted ways to attempt preconception. Many soon-to-be parents want this power for a variety of reasons which include the avoidance of their child being born with a gender specific genetic illness. However, professionals are unsure about the exact roles these methods play and whether they are safe enough to practice on a large scale.
