Which is Best a Winter or Summer Baby

By Eric Oppenheimer

When planning a pregnancy and consulting an ovulation calendar, many couples start to think about when will be the best time of year to have a baby. Although getting pregnant is by no means an exact science, it may take months or it could be just that one time before you start feeling the early signs of pregnancy. If you do have some control over when you fall pregnant you might want to look at the pros and cons of having a baby in either the summer or winter.

The summer is the most common preference for having a baby. Summer parties are always a hit and every year their birthday will be remembered and enjoyed by all. The summertime also means less bits and bobs to worry about. Leaving the house with a newborn can be hard work and when you need to add putting on boots and a coat into that it really can make it harder. In the summertime the general health of everyone around you is better which means you will be less anxious over your newborn getting an infection or virus
Some of the negatives to having a baby in the summer include the temperature if it is a particularly hot summer. Also many parents are now worried about having summer babies as it is thought to mean they may struggle more at school. Try not to worry too much about this though as there are many factors affecting success at school and some experts completely disagree that this is even a problem.

There are some obvious negatives to having late pregnancy during the summer. Your pregnancy week by week becomes more difficult and when you are already likely to be feeling hot, bothered and tired, there's nothing worse than a 30 degree heat wave. Missing out on summer holidays is also likely as its best not to fly or even travel too far during the third trimester.

There are also some pluses to go through the final trimester in summer. The lower chance of rain or snow is also good as it can be quite scary walking through the snow when you are heavily pregnant. During the summer people around you are more likely to be off work if they have kids off school during the holidays, this means there may be a bit more help around.

When a newborn arrives many couples feel a need to hide themselves away in their own little cocoon. This is the great thing about a winter baby. During winter you feel less pressure on yourself to go outside and do things and less pressure is always welcome with a newborn. By the time summer arrives you will be totally in the swing of things and ready to greet the world.

If you are looking at your ovulation calendar and planning on having a winter baby a good thing to remember is that there will be a lot of visitors in the beginning. In the winter it is far less likely that you will meet people in the park or a caf, which means you may end up having a few too many visitors.

The whole experience is amazing including the pregnancy week by week and your new addition will be remarkable at any time of year.
